PANEL
Essie leaning in the door, Fox still at his desk.
ESSIE
Hey, Fox? I haven’t been able to find Fay and Ed anywhere.
FOX
Oh... they’re out for... maintenance.
ESSIE
Ah... Ok.

PANEL
Essie back at concessions, pointing back towards theater 2. Mike looking irritated.
ESSIE
Mike. Theater two needs a quick sweep before the next show.
MIKE
What? Why me? Where are the toasters?

PANEL
Essie confused. Mike now more bold, lecturing.
ESSIE
Toasters?
MIKE
Toasters. Bots? The Twins? Tin cans? Fur jobs? USB hubs? Clankers?

PANEL
Essie looking shocked/drooping. Mike, now a little frustrated, assuming she doesn’t understand.
MIKE
The Anthroids!
ESSIE
Oh... I understand.

Speaking Out Loud

So... We have a very particular view of the world, as seen through Fox and his closest friends. They, in turn, have views of the world fairly similar to his. Mike, in this case, represents a different view. Not an uncommon one, but maybe an unfamiliar one. A little reminder that not everybody shares Fox and his friends views on anthroids. (Well, his friends views? Fox may still not realize that there is any side to be taken yet?)

So, does Essie share these feelings? Maybe. Maybe not. Wether she does or not, anybody that is willing to use that many... well, effectively, slurs... Even describing somebody that's not like them... Well it suggests that he isn't that far from using them on somebody that is like her.
