This comic was inspired by the California Highway Patrol.
So, this story is probably apocryphal, but... Way back in the late 80's, early 90's, the CHP had this Lamborghini that was all tricked out like a patrol car. They took it to car shows, and fares, and like, school events. It was a part of their PR and recruiting wing. After a couple years of showing this thing around, the office that was in charge of it, gets what amounts to a note saying "if you don't use this maintenance budget, you're going to lose it." Now, it had been years at that point, and they had been paying for it out of the regular vehicle pool. So they pull up this special budget and, there's enough for a whole new car... so what do they do? They buy a second one. Trick it all out, just the same, and this one they acutally send out on patrol. It gets handed from office to office, as a sort of a special treat. Sure enough tho, you'd be driving down the 5 in central California, and all of a sudden, there goes a lambo, all dressed up like a CHP cruiser.
Anyway, there's some budget set aside for the anthroids, but it's only available to be spent on maintenance... What if they just so happened to be the ones doing the "work," huh?
I'm not sure if it's totally clear what's going on in the last panel. The quandary that Fox has accidentally put them in.
There are a couple bits that I think turned out really well in this one. Fox's physical gestures, in particular, I'm proud of this time. Holding the cards, waving off the name, wondering about the whole ID collar thing. I hope you enjoy it too.
